5 Ways to Live with Art In Your Home

Create a Focal Point in Each Room

Art can be the stunning centerpiece that defines the overall mood and distinct character of any room. By thoughtfully placing a significant and visually striking piece of art above a fireplace, a beautifully arranged sofa, or in an inviting entryway, you create a captivating focal point that draws attention and encourages moments of reflection.

Select a large painting, sculpture, or beautifully framed print that truly resonates with you and enhances the overall color and style of the room. Be sure to keep the surrounding decor minimal and uncluttered in order to allow the art piece to shine and capture the attention it deserves.

Curate a Rotating Gallery Wall

A well-designed gallery wall provides an excellent opportunity to showcase a thoughtfully curated collection of smaller art pieces, giving you the creative flexibility to change and rotate the artwork over time. This not only keeps your space feeling fresh and dynamic but also allows you to express your evolving tastes and interests in art. Plus if you are an art collector, you may have more pieces than you can display, so switching the art out seasonally is a pleasant way to invite fresh energy into your space and keep things interesting.

Mix and match a variety of different art styles—including paintings, photographs, and illustrations—by arranging them in a cohesive and visually appealing pattern. This approach allows for a unique blend of aesthetics that can enhance your interior design. Additionally, as I mentioned, you have the flexibility to rotate the art seasonally, or whenever you desire.

Keep it Cozy with Candles and Crystal

This tip is for those who enjoy a cozy and romantic atmosphere, or a bit of a mystical vibe..like I do! Candles and crystals can really enhance art. The beauty of the flickering light will cast a magical glow onto the artwork at night and can bring a sense of magic to your space.

A simple way to style artwork is to place it on a table, stand, or dresser with a selection of large crystals one side and a candle on the other. If it’s a bigger painting, then a rather solid and substantial candlestick or an equally robust candle will look great and enhance the overall aesthetic. Conversely, for a small painting, it often works better to utilize a smaller candle or a short candlestick, as they provide a more harmonious proportion. Medium-sized art pieces generally pair well with thinner, elongated candlesticks or candles, creating a lovely balance. However, in the end, it’s very much up to your personal taste and unique style when it comes to selecting the perfect candle or candlestick to complement your artwork.

Use Art to Create Personal Reflection Spaces

Art is often an emotional anchor for many individuals, and thoughtfully placing it in cozy, intimate corners of your living space can significantly enhance your environment, providing daily inspiration and a sense of serenity.

Dedicate a small reading nook, meditation space, or cozy corner within your home that features a calming piece of art. Select artwork that evokes a sense of peace, introspection, or inspiration, allowing it to resonate with your personal taste and emotional needs. To enhance this space further, pair the art with comfortable furniture, such as a plush chair or a small bench, and incorporate soft lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere perfect for relaxation and reflection.

Plants + Art : A Match Made in Heaven

I love house plants! They’re scattered all over my space - in my studio, on shelves in windows, in my bathroom… you name it! They are everywhere. For this tip, I’d like to focus on the pot or container in which you place your plants. Matching colors or using complementary tones will help to amplify the cohesiveness of the scene.

Search for a unique pot at a local thrift store or garden center and have a picture of your artwork on your phone. Test out some ideas until you find one that clicks and go with it! It’s a beautiful way to really make your space come alive and feel good!
