6 Ways Artists + Creatives Can Celebrate the Summer Solstice

Summer Greetings!

I can’t believe it’s finally here…. We have had a heat wave this past week so Spring feels like it left us a long time ago, but Summer is officially underway.

I like to get outdoors this time of year and search for little nature trinkets and fun things to incorporate into my art or home decor. You might enjoy this blog post about tips on incorporating Nature into our home to create a beautfiful nature-inspired sanctuary.

And I also make a point of sitting amongst the fireflies in my garden every single night at twilight. It’s like a little nature mediation and I am so grateful for these amazing glowingly beautiful beings!

The summer solstice is a time of abundance, celebration, joy, adventure, and bliss! This is a wonderful time for creatives to head outdoors for beautiful inspiration.

Here are 6 ways arists and creatives can celebrate the Summer Solstice, or any day in Summer…

Head out to the garden for a paint session.

Gather up the watercolors, colored pencils, or your medium of choice and head out to a flower filled scene. Channel your inner Monet as you paint the way the light dances across the garden.

Collect Flowers for a still life and do a quick sketch or painting of them.

Journal about the experience and what you noticed from connecting to the natural world in this way.

Visit a forest and set up an easel.

Soak of the magical energy and paint the feeling you experience. Does it inspire any ideas for future works or a collection?

Responsibly collect tree leaves for art projects.

Save the leaves for a future collage or to make leaf prints on a future canvas. Place them in between old book pages and discover them on a rainy fall day… taking you right back to summer.

Make Summer Solstice Sun Prints, also known as Cyantoypes.

This is a fun way to mark the strongest energy of the Sun. The prints will be a beautiful reminder of your celebration and a way to connect you to the garden on the darkest days of the year.

Create A Summer Sky Inspired Palette.

Sit in the garden or forest as the sun sets and create a palette of the colors you see as the sky evolves into darkness. Take this palette and use the colors to create your next painting.
